Dr. Ben Karenzi is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Reinsurance Brokerage Solutions (R) Ltd (RBS), the first reinsurance broking services provider in Rwanda. He also serves as the Vice President of the Rwanda Insurance Brokers Association (RIBA).
Under his leadership, RBS has significantly contributed to the local market by increasing risk retention for insurers through the provision of reinsurance capacity. Having established strategic partnerships and accreditations with the Africa Trade and Investment Development Insurance Agency (ATIDI), Lloyd’s London market, the African Continental market, and the Middle Eastern markets, RBS ensures the availability of reinsurance capacity for any risk in the market.
Prior to establishing RBS, he was the Founder and Managing Director of CUZO Insurance Brokers, a direct broking company. The company attracted foreign investors’ interest and successfully negotiated a majority share sale to OLEA, a French-based, pan-African insurance broker.
In addition to managing his own business, he does independent consulting work on business strategy and risk management. He is also the author of several books, including The Integrity Compass, which underscores the importance of integrity and honesty in public office.
His academic and professional qualifications include a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Arts in International Affairs and Diplomacy, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MD) — demonstrating his diverse knowledge and expertise. He is a certified Company Director with the Commonwealth Association of Corporate Governance and holds professional certificates in insurance, pandemic response, crisis management, and conflict management.
As a leader, he has served on the Boards of Directors for various esteemed organizations, including the Rwanda Revenue Authority, Rwandair, the Rwanda Privatization Committee, the School of Finance and Banking, the Rwanda Institute for Policy Analysis and Research, and the World Health Organization (as Alternate Board Member).
He has also served his country as an ambassador (5 years), Member of Parliament (2 years), and Permanent Secretary in both the Ministries of Finance and Health (5 years).
As Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Secretary to the Treasury, he coordinated all activities concerning the financial sector, including policy and regulatory frameworks for the insurance industry. He also oversaw all banking institutions with government shareholding.
Dr. Ben Karenzi is results-oriented and a collaborative team player. He brings extensive experience in strategic leadership, investment risk management, and networking with public and private sector stakeholders.
